DEA Targets Innocent Victims in Its War on Patients!

DEA Targets Innocent Victims in Its War on Patients!

Urge Your Member of Congress to Vote for the Hinchey-Rohrabacher Amendment

Dear ASA Supporter,

In what seems to be a last ditch effort, the federal government has begun to
target landlords in its attempt to cut off safe access for medical cannabis
patients. Last week, the DEA sent out more than 100 letters to Los Angeles
property owners, threatening to seize their assets because they rent to medical
cannabis dispensing collectives. This is an incredulous attempt by DEA to shut
down dispensaries and further threaten patients and providers.

Now is the time to act! We must protect patients, providers, and now ordinary
citizens who are all falling victim to the DEA's attack on safe access! This
recent targeting of landlords shows that it is now more important than ever for
Congress to pass the Hinchey-Rohrabacher Amendment
.

You can help! In order to protect patients, providers, and property owners from
the DEA, we must make sure Congress passes the Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment.
As the Los Angeles Times' editorial
published today described
it, this amendment to the Commerce-Justice-State appropriations bill, "would
kill funding for federal efforts to preempt state medical marijuana
initiatives" and would "halt the DEA's efforts to thwart the will of voters and
legislatures in 12 states." The Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment would have
prevented DEA from harassing and threatening the Los Angeles landlords, because
there would have been no federal funding for these efforts.

The amendment is coming up for a vote next week, so we must take action today.
Visit ASA's online action center at
http://www.AmericansforSafeAccess.org/hincheyaction and send an e-mail to your
representative today!

Most importantly, we need you to call your Member of Congress and urge them to
support the amendment right now. Call your Congressional Representative and
tell them that, if adopted, this amendment will do two things:

(a) Conserve taxpayers' money by blocking funding for DEA raids in legal
medical cannabis states against state certified medical cannabis patients and
providers.

(b) Protect legal medical cannabis patients from having their homes and
workspaces unnecessarily raided by the DEA.

Be sure to ask your representative how s/he plans to vote and to also follow up
after the vote. For phone numbers of your representative, visit http://www.house.gov
or call the congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Give the operator your
zip code and ask to be connected to your U.S. Representative. Before you get
off the phone with your representative's office, ask for their local district
number, so you can contact that office as well.

Contact ASA at sonnet [at] americansforsafeaccess.org and let us know how it went!

After you make that important phone call, contact a friend or family member in
another state, and encourage them to take action too! Every call, every e-mail
makes a difference.

Thank you for your support,
