Immediate Action Needed: Farmland Protection is in Jeopardy!

by American Farmland Trust
Call Your Representative NOW and Take Action! We need your help!

ouse Republicans are introducing a series of amendments for the Farm Bill to eliminate or severely gut the Farm and Ranch Land Protection Program (FRPP) to fund additional commodity subsidies for peanuts, winter wheat. They want to combine FRPP with other easement programs, which will seriously undermine its effectiveness.

Find your Representative's contact information in the chart below and call them right now, July 18th before they vote today!
Tell your Representative to oppose all amendments to weaken the Farm and Ranch Land Protection Program.

When you call, urge your Member to oppose the following amendments that:

Steal FRPP funds for peanut subsidies
Steal FRPP funds for winter wheat subsidies
Combine FRPP with WRP (Wetlands Reserve Program) and/or GRP (Grassland Reserve Program)
Keep the message simple and follow these talking points:

We need FRPP to protect:

Our working farms and ranches—every minute we lose two acres of farmland
Production of our healthiest food—86% of U.S. fruits and vegetables are produced in the path of development
Water quality—well managed farmland produces better water quality than housing developments
Don't let them cut conservation to fund commodity subsidies!
For this message to be effective, you must speak directly with someone in the office like the legislative director do not settle for leaving a voice mail!

Emails will be too late. The House Agriculture Committee starts meeting at 10:00 am this morning. These amendments could come up for a vote any time after that. Please call NOW. Ensure that we protect our working farms and ranches.

Thank you for taking action!
