West Coast Diversity Summit -
GLBT and Community Safety

Saturday July 21, 2007
12 PM & 6 PM
Sacramento, California

After a period of relative safety, recent events have shown a sudden growth of intolerance towards members of minority communities, particularly the LGBT community. The last few years have seen a steady honing of homophobic and racist messages emanating from a growing number of radical groups. The result of this intolerance was the death of Satendar Singh, a young man brutally killed during the Independence Day Holiday in a suspected hate crime.

The years of safety we enjoyed allowed our community resources to be forgotten and networks to atrophy. Today we must rebuild, remember, and not tolerate a single person being harmed simply because of any particular group they may belong to.

12 PM – 3 PM

Dissemination of information: Discovery of community resources, defining common goals, and statements from individuals and organizations responding to the recent escalation in hate crimes. Organizations will present on various topics, opinions, and offer resources we have for the greater community to share.

3 PM – 6 PM

Break and networking.

6 PM – 9 PM

Social reception and work session: Develop methods for community networking of resources, community statements, and action plans for this and other issues facing our common communities.

The location will be finalized and will be in Midtown Sacramento.

The West Coast Diversity Summit is open to all diverse communities, organizations and individuals.
