Rape Cover-Up in Santa Cruz? Greensite v. Rotkin on FRSC Sunday July 8 10AM
by Robert Norse
Tuesday Jul 3rd, 2007 8:02 PM
Following up on three prior interviews with Commission for the Prevention of Violence Co-Founder & UCSC Rape Prevention Educatior Gillian Greensite, Greensite will debate former Santa Cruz Mayor and Public Safety Committee member Mike Rotkin on whether City Council and the City Manager are covering up bad SCPD work on rape.
The debate will last as long as the participants allow. Call-in number 831-427-3772 and 831-469-3119.

Among the issues:
Why was Gillian Greensite refused reappointment to the CPVAW this year?
What accounts for the spiraling rape rate in Santa Cruz (four times the state's average) compared to the drop in the rate for other cities of Santa Cruz's size?
Why has City Council delayed real action on this issue for a year?
What responsibility does City Council's Public Safety Committee--which supposedly oversees the SCPD--have in this situation and has it fallen down on that responsibility?
Has Councilmember Rotkin been an apologist for SCPD negligence on rape investigations and other police matters?
Why has City Council refused to make reform and revitalization of police investigation a priority?
What can ordinary people do to change this situation?
Are homeless women particularly vulnerable in this community?
Does the Sleeping Ban limit their access to the police, their right to sleep safely in numbers, and sleep in well-lighted areas?

The debate will be archived at:
