The Way of Peace
The Fresno Center for Nonviolence 15th anniversary celebration was held on Saturday, June 23, 2007. Each year the center presents the “Way of Peace” awards to community activists, brings a top notch speaker to the event, and provides dinner. This year the Sunday Food Not Bombs group provided a wonderful dinner. Way of Peace awards were given to Sue Kern, Dr. Marc Lasher, Fran Saunders, Berry Nishkian, and Frances Sivak (posthumously). Way of Peace Youth Awards were given to Rosanna Spicer and Nick Clark. A Way of Peace organizational Award was given to Teatro Immigrante. The speaker was Antonia Juhasz.
Here is what the Fresno Center for Nonviolence had to say about this event:
In celebrating 15 years of fellowship in building a more democratic, more just, more peace respecting community in Fresno.
We thank our greatly valued volunteers and financial supporters who keep us going.
We thank the many organizations we ally with in work for specific causes and issues such as:
* Ending the war and demilitarizing society
* Achieving equitable treatment for immigrants
* Protecting natural resources and ending corporate dominance
* Attaining health care for all
* Achieving humane social inclusion of the poor, the homeless, ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities
* Recasting the criminal justice system, abolishing the death penalty
* Implementing independent review of police actions
* Providing alternative, non-corporate media sources
Antonia Juhasz was the featured speaker. Antonia is the author of the new book “The Bush Agenda: Invading the World, One Economy at a Time” which exposes the Bush Administration’s use of corporate globalization policy as a weapon of war. Presenting the Iraq War as the most brutal application of the Bush agenda, Juhasz revealed the “oil time-line” driving the war and how the administration has fundamentally transformed Iraq’s economy, locking in sweeping advantages to its corporate allies - including increased access to Iraq’s oil.
