New York State Residents: Urge Your State Senator to Support Bill That Would Ban Canned Exotic-Animal Hunts
Tuesday, June 19, 2007 : Your support is desperately needed for a bill that, if passed, will protect exotic mammals—such as lions, tigers, and zebras—from being hunted and killed on fenced hunting reserves and game ranches in New York State. The bill, S 784, has already passed the State Assembly and now needs your support to pass the State Senate.
Canned hunting is in no way a "sport." The animals in these facilities are often tame—many are castoffs from zoos and circuses. They are fenced in and have no chance of escape. Most of these ranches operate on a "no kill, no pay" policy, so the owners ensure that clients get what they came for by permitting the use of dogs, providing guides who are familiar with the animals' locations and habits, and supplying "feeding stations" that lure unsuspecting animals to food while hunters wait nearby, ready to blast the animals away.
Please call or write your New York State Senator and New York State Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno today. Politely urge them to support this lifesaving bill.
