Health Care Coalition Urges Congressional Action On Comprehensive Health Care Reform

by SEIU (reposted)
Tuesday, June 12, 2007 : Washington, DC, – The Better Health Care Together Coalition ( http://www.betterhealthcaretogether.org ), today released a letter to every Member of Congress, urging action on four areas of which will help advance the goal of comprehensive reform by 2012.
The steps are:
* Reauthorize the enormously successful State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) with the necessary changes to ensure all children who are SCHIP-eligible but otherwise uninsured get the care they need to live healthy, productive lives.
* Establish a secure national standard for health IT interoperability and provide the funds necessary to invest in an electronic infrastructure for health information.
* Allow payers and consumers to better evaluate provider quality and efficiency through increased access to Medicare data.
* Provide funding for comparative effectiveness research.

“We stand ready to work with you and other political leaders in the Congress, the executive branch and in the states, as well as with other business, labor and non-profit leaders to advance both our principles for comprehensive reform and these interim measures,” the letter stated.

The letter is signed by the members of the Better Health Care Together Coalition, a unique coalition of concerned leaders from the business, labor, and public policy sectors who share the conviction that broad-based health care reform is among the most pressing economic and moral imperatives facing our nation.
