Short-Lived Reprieve from Anti-Immigrant Attitudes in Connecticut

NEW YORK The day after the local government of New Haven, Conn. voted to create identification cards for immigrants, 29 people were detained in a raid by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, reports El Diario-La Prensa. John DeStefano, the mayor of New Haven, called the raids an arbitrary decision aimed at punishing the city for its action. City spokespeople said they had no record of any previous raids in the city. Among the arrested were immigrants from Nicaragua, Guatemala, Ecuador and Mexico, some of whom had warrants pending for evading deportation orders, according to ICE.
