Reefer Madness Replaced by Hydro Hysteria
Tells how the “War on Drugs” has created an hysterical reaction to hydroponic marijuana, and how using a marijuana vaporizer can significantly reduce the harmful effects of smoking.
In the 30’s there was Reefer Madness, now we have the 21st century version; Hydro Hysteria. Marijuana is something that Wade Agnew knows a great deal about. The author of the recently released autobiography “Cheating the Hangman: True Confessions of a Heroin Trafficker” Wade knows what he’s talking about when it comes to illegal drugs; he has been using them for almost forty years, and smoking marijuana on a daily basis since first discovering it a University in 1968. Wade has taken them all.
“It was bad enough in the early days. I was “verballed” by the Australian Police; planted with two roaches; enough to have you jailed for months! It’s laughable when I think about it now. We had to endure this situation for decades, and people around the globe are still being incarcerated for ludicrous amounts of marijuana. It’s a scandal, especially in some parts of the United States; the so-called land of the free.”
“Now health and law enforcement authorities have launched a new international assault against the growing use of hydroponic marijuana; known as “hydro”. Thanks to the global “War on Drugs” percolating from the US, with its associated stranglehold on the International Narcotics Control Board, we now have to endure a new round of anti-marijuana hysteria. This new assault demonizes, criminalizes and persecutes those who choose to consume cannabis.
“Jesus, in the 1960’s I would have given my right arm for marijuana as consistently good as the current hydro. The main complaint seems to be the increased strength; the high THC content; often around 20%”.
“Are these guys kidding me? Grass that’s too strong! Is there any such thing? Not in my book; the stronger the better. I use a marijuana vaporizer these days. It’s the absolute best way to take your medicine,” says Wade from his home in Australia, where much to his chagrin, marijuana remains illegal.
Health experts have jumped on board, adding their own medical hysteria. It causes schizophrenia they claim. People with this ailment are certainly drawn to cannabis, and it could well aggravate the condition, but nothing definitive regarding cause and effect has been established. On the other side of the health ledger, it has been known for centuries that marijuana is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man, with a wide variety of applications; relief from nausea and increase of appetite; reduction of intra-ocular (within the eye) pressure; reduction of muscle spasms, and relief from chronic pain. Marijuana is frequently beneficial in the treatment of AIDS, Glaucoma, Cancer (chemotherapy treatment), Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, and Chronic Pain. Many patients also report that marijuana is useful for treating arthritis, migraine, menstrual cramps, alcohol and opiate addiction, depression and other debilitating mood disorders. Do we ever hear any of this from the health “experts”?
Since much of the controversy over the use of cannabis originates from possible long-term damage from harmful elements in the smoke, using a marijuana vaporizer makes good sense.
“I import the VapoHead Marijuana Vaporizer into Australia because I couldn’t get a decent one locally” says Wade.
“It releases the beneficial ingredients of marijuana into my lungs without burning; no tars or other harmful carcinogens. I wake in the morning without that heavy feeling in my lungs. Many glass-dome marijuana vaporizers have appeared since the first vaporizers arrived in 1994. None of them work as well as the VapoHead; remember bigger is not always better.”
Large glass domes are inefficient. You lose many of the active ingredients of marijuana because they condense on the inside of the dome. The VapoHead Marijuana Vaporizer has a small dome and an airtight seal designed for maximum efficiency. The ceramic bowl allows for even heating unlike brass versions, holding an ample amount of your chosen cannabis. The smaller size and scientific design combine just the right amount of heat and reduced oxygen supply for maximum benefit.

According to the “Maps” study; (Vol.11 spring2001) "The Marijuana Vaporizer produced THC at a temperature of 200 C. (392 F.), while completely eliminating three measured toxins; benzene, a known carcinogen, plus toluene and naphthalene. Carbon monoxide and smoke tars were both qualitatively reduced by the Marijuana Vaporizer.
“So don’t believe everything you read about hydro, keep your own counsel, stay calm, and if you want to get stoned without feeling like you’ve just sucked smoke from a car exhaust, get yourself a marijuana vaporizer.” Says Wade from in front of his laptop in Australia.

Yes, I too am amused by those who proclaim that the marijuana of today is not the marijuana of 20 years ago. The price of marijuana today is not the price of marijuana 20 years ago either. When its stronger, you need to smoke less to get the same effect.
Since the ONLY documented negative effect of smoking marijuana is large bronchial irritation (probably mostly from the HEAT of the smoke), it makes logical sense to smoke a stronger variety to minimize the amount of smoke inhaled. Most people do smoke smaller amounts of the stronger varieties. Ingesting marijuana has NO ill effects on the bronchials.
Marijuana or Cannabis mis-education is occurring daily in Santa Cruz. Students at Harbor HS and Soquel HS are forced to watch government films in their Health classes which claim that cannabis causes cancer, schizophrenia, birth defects, and memory loss. None of these outcomes has been proven by scientific double-blind tests with large numbers of users. In fact, scientific studies of cigarette smokers who also use cannabis documented a LOWER cancer rate among those who also smoked cannabis than those who only smoked tobacco leading to the conclusion that pot has some kind of protective element against cancer for the lungs.
This study was a govt. study which was designed to PROVE that marijuana can cause cancer. Fortunately for the public, the scientists involved were scientists first and govt. flunkies second, and faithfully reported their findings. I"m sure they received no more grant money afterwards.
The Jamaican studies of heavy-users found NO increase in cancer for that group, thoroughly proving that there is no connection between smoking cannabis and getting cancer.
Cannabis is in the Bible. It is a Hebrew word, spelled using consonants only: KNBS or cannabis. It is one of the four ingredients in the annointing oil and hence, is considered very holy in Jewish texts. Most English bibles translate it as "fragrant cane" or sometimes mis-translate it as "calamus" which is incorrect.
The reason legalization is so difficult has to do with the lobbying efforts of several large industries which would stand to lose funding should cannabis be readily available in everyone's garden down next to the tomatoes. These industries are the criminal justice industry (police, lawyers, DA's, jailers, etc.) which primarily owes their living to marijuana prosecutions. The wood and pulp industry which could be replaced with hemp fibers, the cotton industry which would lose to a much stronger fiber, the tobacco industry which wants people smoking tobacco only, the alcohol industry which sensible folks would stop buying to get a better high with no hangover. The oil industry which would have competition from a much higher quality oil, and the pharmeceutical industry which could not sell as many pain pills, tranquilizers, and anti-spasmodics as people switch to the organic medicine. Cannabis cannot be patented.
The DEA is dependent on persecuting cannabis users. While other illegal drugs are far more harmful, the number of people who use them is tiny.
No job security in that!!
Finally, most readers are too young to remember a time in which religion was a large influence in people's lives. The Protestant work-ethic is suspicious of anything which provides pleasure, whether it be sex, drugs, or even plush carpeting. There came to be a belief that if it feels good it must be bad. Much religious moralism regarding cannabis has to do with this war against the pleasure principle. However, with a growing secular society, that takes a pill for every ailment (I mean, really, what IS restless leg syndrome????) the pharmaceutical industry has become a more powerful influence in our lives than religious institutions----and our drug purchases prove it. Many pharmaceutical drugs are addictive and have serious side effects---but this rarely causes them to be removed from the market.
Its difficult to keep your compass working properly in a world filled with "experts" who are arguing for maintaining their own authority at the expense of science or facts. My advice is to read everything and come to your own conclusions. Jack Herer was a pioneer in the field of debunking demonizing pseudo-science. We need to come out of the closet. We need to insist on proper science. And we need to hold our electeds accountable for this war on drugs which has done so little good despite the effort and expense.
Get on every jury and just say "no" to any prosecution of anyone for cannabis possession, use, cultivation, or sales. Remember, it only takes ONE juror to hang a conviction. Make it so no one can get convicted in Santa Cruz County!!
