IDA has launched a new campaign targeting Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, Calif. where dozens of animals have died prematurely in the past decade. The seven elephants on display there now experience continual suffering from the noise and crowds at the park, and painful abuse from trainers who use sharp bullhooks to control them. Six Flags is the only facility in the country accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association that still offers elephant rides, even though they endanger the safety of park visitors and are stressful for the elephants. Other zoos stopped providing elephant rides long ago for these very reasons.

1) Please join us for a demonstration at the park to educate visitors about the animal abuse taking place at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

*What: Demonstration at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
*When: Saturday, May 26th from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
*Where: Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, 1001 Fairgrounds Drive, Vallejo (map)

IDA will supply all materials for the demonstration, including leaflets, posters, a banner, and video monitor. For more information or to RSVP, contact IDA's Campaign Coordinator Melissa Gonzalez at melissa [at] idausa.org or (415) 388-9641, ext. 228.

2) "Take Action" to tell the mayor of Vallejo (which "owns" most of the elephants) to ban bullhooks from the park and end elephant rides:
