The MacArthur freeway interchange detour through West Oakland seems to have opened up some creative urban messaging opportunities. These fliers were found on a number of posts along the West Grand Avenue detour route for Eastbound 24 and 580.

So, what else do East Bay Stencil Pirates, Wheatpasters, Taggers & Bombers, Projection Bombers, and other dissident graffiti artists have in store for the streets of West Oakland during this temporary re-routing of commuter traffic? Are these small posters it?

West Grand detour:

About 80,000 vehicles normally use the Eastbound 24 and 580 freeway connector at the MacArthur Maze each day, but it is now expected to remain closed for months due to being destroyed by the tanker fire on April 29th.

City officials estimate that this means an extra 5,000 cars per hour are using West Oakland streets as a result of the detour.

Separately, the damaged 880 Southbound connector is expected to re-open within weeks.
