The Klamath dams have been blamed for some Klamath River fish kills, long term salmon depletion and toxic algae blooms up to 4000x what is safe for human contact. However Klamath River Tribes and fishermen have no option but to use the Klamath River, despite the dangers, for religious ceremonies and fishing.

This conflict lead to the filing of a lawsuit by tribes, fishermen and recreational industries just yesterday.
