Most Wanted
A Solo Exhibition by Taraneh Hemami
May 9 - June 30, 2007
Opening Reception:
Wednesday, May 9, 6-9PM, FREE
Who are our enemies? And what do they look like? Iranian-born painter, installation and conceptual artist Taraneh Hemami poses these critical questions in her latest solo exhibition, Most Wanted. Hemami explores the nature of perception, recognition, and representation while examining how the image of the new enemy has been constructed and misused. Inspired by an official document from the United States government that depicts countless faceless portrayals of the "most wanted terrorists," Hemami investigates stereotypes, cultural representation, cultural understanding, and more.
