Response / letter to editor :A Portrait: 420 at UC Santa Cruz by josh sonnenfeld
This is a response to A portrait: 420 at UC Santa Cruz by josh sonnenfeld praising his piece, and a request for a more organized protest and written petition that could essentially get campus and community policies and laws changed. So I call out to all Activists at UCSC to try and make a larger mark next year.
Dear Josh Sonnenfeld
Thank you for representing the activists of 4/20 with such passionate sincerity and confidence. If you do not mind me adding I would also like to say that while students flock by tradition into the porter meadow on 4/20 many local Santa Cruz community members also join with us to protest by way of civil disobedience. Unfortunately because of the lack of actual organization at a protest like this one could say that we are not actually doing anything as far as decriminalization and legalization are concerned. The only point 4/20 protestors made was that much of the youth of America wants to smoke weed in front of cops and have next to nothing done to stop them. With a more organized protest and written petition we could essentially get campus and community policies and laws changed. So I call out to all Activists at UCSC to try and make a larger mark next year.
Sincerely Simon Heerdegen
