Positive Role Models

When I read the article “Coming Together to Honor Local Activists” by Amanda in the Indybay website, I was filled with joy being informed that local activists were honored on Saturday, April 14 at the First Congregational Church in Santa Cruz. The reason for my reaction was because it is rare to come across articles who acknowledge heroes around our communities. Usually articles are based on tragedies, protests, and violence with our communities, but heroes such as Takashi Yogi, Oscar Rios, or Ramiro Medrano are hardly acknowledged for their hard work in trying to bring peace and justice in our lives. Writing more often about the positive role models in our community is necessary in order for the youth in our societies to follow their footsteps and be encouraged to take action in our world.
