Cutting Mental Health Programs

The recent shootings at Virginia Tech provide yet another example of the extent of the damage caused by the priorities of our institutions of higher education. Colleges and universities around the country are funneling money into those areas with the highest potential payoff.
Meanwhile, funds to those programs considered “extraneous,” including mental health programs, continue to be cut.
Our universities prioritize their own ability to make money over the health and welfare of the students who are forced to pay exorbitant amounts of money for the privilege of attending a university.
