regarding the Sentinel's "Activists celebrate military-free job fair at UCSC" article
the sentinel's coverage of the student's protest against the miliarty's involvement at the job fair was very insufficient
The article “Activists celebrate military-free job fair at UCSC”, from the Sentinel’s April 24th issue, has insufficient coverage. The article insinuated that the UCSC student’s reason for protest against the military’s participation in the school-run job fair was because of anti-war sentiment. While there is a large amount of UCSC students against the war, the choice to protest came from the military’s violation of California’s law to prohibit discrimination against homosexuals. The military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy discriminates against gays and lesbians enrolling in, or already involved in the military. UCSC, a state school, falls under the law against discrimination. The article in the paper only discussed how students to make a change in the war. The protest had strong legal motivation for trying to prevent the military’s presence at the job fair, and its cause should have been included in the article.
