My response to the Washington Post article, Hundreds of Teens March to Demand Intervention in Darfur, which was written by Steve Vougt

Dear Editor:
I commend the teenage Darfur activists who were mentioned in Steve Vougt’s article, Hundreds of Teens March to Demand Intervention in Darfur. It is always wonderful to see young people trying to make a difference, especially when it comes to pressing matters such as genocide. Although the march that they did may not have an immediate impact on United States policy towards Sudan, it will put pressure on Congress and the President to act and just as important, bring more awareness to the Darfur genocide.
Such awareness is greatly needed. As a Darfur activist myself, I have found that not many people, especially young persons, are aware of the situation in Sudan. Hopefully, the actions of these teenage activists will inspire other teenagers to learn more about the genocide and work to help put an end to it and prevent such atrocities from happening in the future. Throughout history, the world has promised that genocide would never happen again, yet their pledges were broken in Bosnia, Cambodia, Sudan, and Rwanda. Let’s hope that these teenage activists and other teenagers will make the promises come true.
Sincerely,
Alex W
