Action Alert: The Klamath Dams Aren't Green!

by Dan Bacher
Send a letter to the New York Times about the recent article that let PacifiCorp claim to be green due to their fish killing.
TAKE ACTION TODAY FOR THE KLAMATH AND ALL OF AMERICA'S RIVERS- DON'T LET PACIFICORP GREENWASH KILLING SALMON:

A recent piece in the New York Times claimed dams are good for global warming and let PacifiCorp, the biggest coal polluter in Oregon, claim to be green due to their fish killing, and toxic algae producing Klamath Dams.  As we prepare to go to Warren Buffett's (the owner of PacifiCorp through Berkshire Hathaway) shareholders' meeting this message is very misleading.
It is also being picked up by alot of papers.
A sample letter from Klamath Riverkeeper is below.

Write a letter to the New York Times, International Heard Tribune, and Redding Record Searchlight.  All letters need to be 150 words or less.

New York Times:  Send a letter to the editor by e-mailing letters [at] nytimes.com or faxing (212)556-3622.

International Heard Tribune: letters [at] iht.com. They can also sent by fax to: +33 1 41 43 93 32

PacifiCorp’s Toxic Reservoirs are the Only Thing Green about Klamath Dams

As consumer of Pacific Salmon, I was disturbed by Sundays’ editorial that claimed the Klamath Dams fight global warming.

PacifiCorp is the biggest coal burner in Oregon and gets .3% of their power from green sources.  Oregon requires 10% of their energy to come from green sources by 2012.  Still PacifiCorp refuses to replace the 1% of their power from Klamath dams with green power.

The Klamath Dams have the worst toxic algae problem in North America.  This alga admits methane pollution and makes the river toxic.

The shutdown of 700 miles of the Pacific coastline to fishing due lack of Klamath Salmon last year caused a two state emergency.

This is not green.

As our oceans warm, rivers can keep salmon alive.  Should we let polluters tell us pollution is green while killing cultures, industries, or find solutions?
