Building African and Mexican Unity in the Anti-Imperialist Struggle

Chairman Omali opened his presentation giving appreciation for Union del Barrio, the Mexican liberation organization with which the APSP has a long-standing fraternal relationship. "We are living in a world today where most of the oppressed peoples of the world are rising up and creating incredible crises for a social system that has its origin in, that was born from, the process of taking away our freedom and taking away our resources. When we talk about this false and artificial conflict between Mexicans and Africans here, it is usually a conflict born out of a struggle for resources. The reality is that, if you really want to look at the question of resources, both of us have been had! As Malcolm X said, 'we been took, we been misled, we been bamboozled', because neither of us has anything. Mexicans ain't got nothing. Africans ain't got nothing. All of us are impoverished because of our relationship to imperial white power. And that is what we are going to have to come to terms with and be able to attack."
