Recently the Peace and Freedom Party launched a nationwide presidential search campaign seeking candidates for President of the United States; this week Stewart A. Alexander is the first candidate to formally announce his candidacy as a Peace and Freedom Party candidate for president.

The Peace and Freedom Party is a left political party that was established in 1967; the party is ballot qualified in California and is considering obtaining ballot status in other states. The party is non-sectarian, but is specifically socialist.

The party’s platform puts forward proposals intended to benefit the needs of working class families; party activist work for peace, against racism, in defense of civil rights and liberties, for strong democratic union representation, and for the defense of the environment.

The Peace and Freedom Party has remained strongly opposed to the invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan and supports an immediate withdrawal of all American and Allied forces.

Stewart Alexander’s campaign to become president is broad based and comprehensive, addressing the needs of working class people in America and the world.

Alexander says, “The Democrats and Republicans, one party with two names, no longer represent America’s working class; the present one party system represents less than 5 percent of the 300 million people living in this country. Unfortunately, many Americans still believe the Democrats and Republicans are representing their best interest in Washington and the world.”

Alexander’s platform will consist of several key areas; creating programs to assist American veterans and their families, free college education for students through university level, national legislation that will meet the growing needs of seniors and the homeless, establishing universal health care, affordable housing, creating a stronger economy for working people with jobs providing good pay, hours and benefits, and developing cleaner technologies to protect the environment.

On matters of immigration, Alexander will work with other left groups and organizations to provide protection for the 12 million immigrants presently living in the United States. Alexander says, “I believe this nation should support real job opportunities for migrant workers instead of guest worker slavery programs.”

Stewart Alexander has previously run for public office, most recently he was a candidate for California Lieutenant Governor in the 2006 Mid-Term Election. In 1989 Alexander was a candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles. He was a political activist and state lobbyist working for the Florida Consumer Action Network (FCAN), and was a political activist with the Long Island Citizens Campaign in New York. Alexander is presently a member of the Peace and Freedom Party State Central Committee, he is the party’s National Membership Coordinator, and he is an officer on the Board of the PFP State Executive Committee.

Alexander says his bid to be the next president of the United States is a grassroots effort and he welcomes the support from individuals and groups across the nation. The Democrats and Republicans never represented the workingclass; they have always been parties of business, and by the end of the 19th century, big business. The Democrat-Republican Party (official name) goes back to Thomas Jefferson's run for president in 1796. By 1828, we had Andrew Jackson, Democrat and Indian killer against John Quincy Adams, National Republican and ruling class capitalist. The Republican Party disappeared for a while until 1856, when John Fremont ran on the Republican ticket, and is better known as another Indian killer. His capitalist party was opposed to slavery because the wage labor of the capitalist North could not compete with the slave labor of the semi-feudal South. Then we had the famous Abraham Lincoln, a lawyer, and promoter of Indian genocide. He finally got around to issuing the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, 2 years after the civil war had started, because the Union forces were losing and freeing the slaves in the rebelling territories (which was not all the slaves) deprived the Southern capitalists of their labor and thus their ability to wage war. The slaves still ended up freeing themselves most of the time, as they fled to the approaching Union lines. After the Civil War and until 1970, the Democratic Party became the party of the Dixiecrats, the former Southern slaveholders, and the Northern election frauding big city political machines, run by the capitalist class to keep the Reds out of office. By 1970, the Dixiecrats became Republicans and the Democrats were left with the election frauding big city capitalist machines. By 1904, the socialists had a major candidate, a labor organizer, Eugene Victor Debs who in the 1912 election won almost 1 million votes. In the 20th and 21st Centuries, the Democrats and Republicans continued to represent the same capitalist class. The only reason the Democrats exist is to keep the Reds and Greens out of office, and once the Democrats are in office, they carry out the same agenda as the Republicans. This presidential election they are going to play the abortion card, even though they are an anti-abortion gang, from Senator Harry Reid, Al Gore, John Kerry to Rep. Dennis Kucinich. Senator Hillary Clinton welcomes the anti-abortion crowd to the Democratic Party. For more on the anti-abortion Democrats, see the World Socialist Website, 4/21/07:

I usually vote the Peace & Freedom Party ticket. I hope your future promotionals make it clear that the Democrats & Republicans NEVER represented the workingclass. I also hope you actively promote women's right to abortion and point out the the Democrats are just as anti-abortion as the Republicans. They voted for the anti-abortion justices (Senators Kerry and Gore); they allowed them to sit on the Supreme Court when a better option is to have empty seats if we cannot have pro-abortion justices. In short, GIVE 'EM HELL!
