ODC Theater is proud to present Artist in Residence Navarrete x Kajiyama Dance Theater in The Revenge of Huitlacoche, an evening length solo work conceived and performed by José Navarrete and created in collaboration with some of the Bay Area’s most exciting choreographers and Navarrete’s greatest influences—Joanna Haigood, Sara Shelton Mann, Debby Kajiyama, June Watanabe and Shakiri.
This new solo work includes art installation, dance, theater, poetry, and political and social commentary in a raw cabaret style. The Revenge of Huitlacoche explores issues on a worldwide scale: migrations, natural disasters, war, religion, the environment, and concepts of alienation and community, in a set of vignettes incorporating Mexican images and iconography.
The Revenge of Huitlaoche will be presented in two weekends of performances—as on April 6th-7th at the recently opened EastSide Cultural Center in Oakland, and as part of Navarrete x Kajiyama Dance Theater’s Artist Residency at ODC Theater April 12th -14th.
