Art Events at Sol Collective
March and April events at sol collective --- support the arts!
Sol Collective is a community based arts and cultural center. Our mission is to provide artistic, cultural and educational programming to increase cultural understanding, empower youth and promote social justice.
It's located at 2010 Del Paso Blvd.
On March 24, Sol Collective will be showing "On The Edge," a documentary covering the brutal murders of hundreds of poor young women in the border town of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, murders that have been repeatedly ignored and unresolved by police and governments since 1993, despite the continued and persistent efforts of family members and activists to obtain justice for the victims. Rather than provide an easy, murder-mystery style solution to the crimes, the film sets out to explain the social, cultural, and economic factors that have created this situation where the killings can continue, and continue to go unpunished.
On March 29, a showing of "Rap for Rights," a film criticizing the commercial rap scene, provides an alternative -- how rap can be the next leader in politics, music and the revolution.
On April 14, Urban Sprawl Devours Nature, an art show featuring seven artists will take place from 6 p.m. to midnight.
Sol Collective " Next " Gallery offers a space for the next generation of artists to display their work, peroformances and organized events. We are currently accepting submissions from young people age 18 and under. The "Sol Next" gallery is managed by youth curator, Laura Redoble.
