Meeting at the foot of San Francisco's Federal Building this morning, San Francisco Supervisors Ross Mirkarimi and Chris Daly joined other speakers to demand that Congresswoman and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi honor their resolution and the opinion of a majority of citizens to discontinue funding military operations and hold the Bush administration accountable for its total failure in Iraq.

Time constraint has kept me from writing about teach-in #4. I found
that Pelosi's representative in San Francisco Dan Bernal hardly
covered new ground in spite of added questions put him-- some very
eloquently (particularly from Krissy Keefer who asked why the record
shows that all the added appropriations to date find their way LAST to
the soldiers who our representatives say they support-- and from Luke
Thomas of the Fog City Journal who asked to what account are the
wishes of the troops being taken into account: if the goal is to
"support the troops," why is it that their overwhelmong desire to leave
Iraq not respected?).
I have come to the personal conclusion that this war (and the coming
escalations that appear all but inevitable as coded in the word
"redeployment" which is NOT being used as a euphemism for "withdrawal"
is being run by advisors who are foremost Systems Analysists, not
unlike Robert McNamara during the Vietnam War, who count percentages
and numbers-- and votes on the hill. They do not rely on their own
knowledge of how this illegal conflict came to be and what it is
becoming. They do not have a clear sense of the difference of basic
concepts of right and wrong.
