Newsom’s Campaign Website Reveals Narrow Political Base
On March 15, Gavin Newsom formally launched his re-election campaign website with a mass e-mail, inviting San Franciscans to “be a part of this great conversation.” But with all the talk that the Mayor is unbeatable because he is so popular and has “expanded” his political base, Newsom’s campaign website does not reflect the diversity of support that one would expect him to have. While a popular incumbent with no declared challenger could afford to run a positive campaign message of unity, Newsom’s website is replete with divisive attacks on the Board of Supervisors – with a strange focus on Municipal Wi-Fi. Meanwhile, the website links to alternative media sources like Beyond Chron with a derisive but back-handed compliment – “mean but interesting” – showing once again that the Mayor is deeply sensitive to any criticism.
or the past four years, Newsom has been blessed with high approval ratings that would be the envy of any Mayor. While he’s lately been under fire for a variety of reasons, conventional wisdom says that Newsom sealed his re-election by gaining the loyal support of two constituencies with proven vote-getting ability – gays and labor. While he hasn’t done much lately for the LGBT community, many more will vote for Newsom this time around because of his bold stand in February 2004 for marriage equality. Newsom’s visible support for the striking hotel workers has also earned him solid support in the labor movement, making it difficult for any progressive to run a grassroots campaign against him this year.

Election Fraud "mayor" Newsom had the unmitigated gall to call the tepid, Democratic Party mouthpiece, the Bay Guardian "mean" while linking to it on his campaign website, because after all, Newsom is a Democrat. We should note that he did not link to this website, the best website in the Bay Area, consistently providing serious news and analysis of concern to San Francisco and elsewhere. Three cheers for Indymedia, and especially http://www.indybay.org Then, of course, there is the one and only, never to be forgotten, election fraud website, exposing the San Francisco Democratic Party's election fraud in the 1970s (notably with Glide Church and its chief hustler, Cecil Williams on the team then and now) at http://www.brasscheck.com/jonestown and the election fraud of June 3, 1997, almost 10 years ago, the 49er Stadium Swindle election, http://www.brasscheck.com/stadium The election fraud in that election perpetrated by the Democratic Party, Republican Party, Chamber of Commerce, Glide Church led by Cecil Williams, Third Baptist Church led by Amos Brown, Nation of Islam, A. Phillip Randolph Institute, TURF, Walden House, Housing Authority, and the San Francisco Police Department, among others, it the same election fraud that selected Willie Brown for a second term as "mayor" in 1999 and selected Gavin Newsom for "mayor" in 2003 (they added "SLUG," a city worker group to that list in 2003). We can be sure that same election fraud team is ready to roll for November 2007. The way to overcome that election fraud is for a massive turnout for a pro-rent control candidate, such as current Green Supervisor Ross Mirikarimi or any other well known pro-rent control person who is not a Democrat or Republican. Newsom is bought and paid for by the anti-rent control real estate industry, and he is a Democrat, proving again there is no difference between the Democrats and Republicans. Both capitalist parties supported both the baseball and football stadium swindle. Only the socialist Peace & Freedom Party and the Green Party oppose stadium swindles. Whether we defeat Newsom's election fraud team or not, we will certainly be ready to roll in 2011, when there will be no incumbent. Lots of us will be glad to campaign for a Green or socialist candidate for mayor.
