Pride at Work Passes Motion in Support of Alcatraz Ferry Workers

by Gurley
The Bay Area chapter of Pride at Work passed a motion supporting the IBU-ILWU and MM&P in their struggle against Alcatraz Cruises. They endorsed the boycott of Hornblower Cruises and adopted a day of protest in solidarity with the displaced Alcatraz ferry workers.
Motion in Support of Alcatraz Ferry Workers

The Bay Area Chapter of Pride at Work stands in strong solidarity with the members of the
Inland Boatmen's Union (IBU-ILWU) and the Master Mates and Pilots Union (MM&P) in their
struggle with Hornblower Cruises and Events, Alcatraz Cruises and the National Park
Service.

We endorse the boycott of Hornblower and Alcatraz Cruises and call for the LGBTQ
community to support the displaced Alcatraz Ferry workers by honoring the boycott of
Alcatraz Cruises and Hornblower Cruises and Events.

We further support the picket at Pier 31/33. We are therefore adopting a day of
picketing at Pier 33 on April 15th from 10am to 12pm and encourage all Pride at Work
members and supporters to attend.

We understand that the tactics being used by the National Park Service and Alcatraz
Cruises against the IBU-ILWU and MM&P are part of a larger strategy being employed by the
federal government to weaken the labor movement. We, as queer labor activists fighting
for social justice, must oppose these national policies of privatization, discrimination
and union-busting.

We recognize that this struggle has wide implications for the labor movement, the City of
San Francisco and the entire nation and call for other LGBTQ organizations to endorse the
boycott of Hornblower and to support this campaign.
