Leuren Moret .. claims that atomic testing caused nationwide drop in SAT scores and rise in autism .. also claims that depleted uranium dust is circling the world and has caused worldwide epidemic of diabetes. Before inviting her, you might actually talk to the Physics or Health Science professor or maybe even invite someone from the American Diabetes Association. Douglas Lind Rokke, claims to be retired Army Major with 30 or 40 year career, depending on how gulible he thinks the audience is that night, also has claimed to have treated front line casualties in two wars -- the real Doug Rokke was commended for treating roadside accident victims on the way home from his Illinois National Guard drill and never saw combat in Desert Storm - he spent that war safe in Riyadh, but claims he is 40% disabled combat veteran. He emphasizes the Doctor from his PhD, but seldom makes it clear that the doctorate is in Education and that he never really has successfully done anything with it - he's not a professor, nor the Supertindent of Schools, just a substitute teacher .. he also claims to be the Army DU expert .. but Captain Rokke never was the Director of the Army DU program. Bob Nichols .. got awarded a political prize by a far left professor who seems to think that good journalism is the same as science fiction .. Nichols has lied about Livermore, just as he has lied about US casualties - he claims 11,000 nameless soldiers died due to depleted uranium .. he doesn't have a job and he enjoys spreading his lies. So now Doug Rokke, PhD., the leading critic of the US military's policy of using radioactive Depleted Uranium (DU) is having his creds challenged by a defender of the war-criminal GW Bush regime. Not that what he's saying about the health risks of DU exposure is proven wrong, though maybe by attacking Rokke's creds somehow the cancer rates of US vets from Iraq wars 1 & 2 will magically decrease? Maybe all the VA and Walter Reed medical center needs to say is PTSD is the only condition they'll grudgingly acknowledge and ineffectively treat? Deny any effects to health of soldiers from exposure to Depleted Uranium? All in their traumatized heads you say? No links between DU and cancer, leukemia, birth defects, etc..??

In reality (not the right-wing blogosphere of GW Bush regime collaboraters) Doug Rokke PhD tours the world and nation talking to many people and veterans about the physical human health risks of DU exposure. This man is perfoming a very important service to the people of the world by exposing the dangers correlated with DU exposure. Me personally am glad to have met Doug and wish him health, wellness, satisfaction and that he continue to deliver his message to the people (NO sarcasm here) about the risks of DU exposure. Like Agent Orange in Vietnam, DU WILL be phased out of the military and those upper echelon commanders responsible for the DU/cancer linked cover-up WILL be held accountable..

We're placing the youth of the nation in harm's way by allowing the US military to remain silent on their use of DU weaponry and refusal to either test or treat veterans for exposure to DU? This is how you treat the people you send into Iraq? No wonder Hugo Chavez calls GW Bush the Devil, he's telling it like it is!!

(Remember GW Bush's father already was warned NOT to use DU prior to Iraq war #1, and of course additional supporting research warned GW Bush NOT to use DU in Iraq war #2 either!! Did he listen to the concerns of the people, families of veterans?? Does he ever?? Maybe an apartheid 'border fence' around Walter Reed medical center will solve the problem of DU exposure, eh George W??)

Here's the info on DU and soldier heath;

When a DU round or bomb strikes a hard target, most of its kinetic energy is converted to heat " sufficient heat to ignite the DU. From 40% to 70% of the DU is converted to extremely fine dust particles of ceramic uranium oxide (primarily dioxide, though other formulations also occur). Over 60% of these particles are smaller than 5 microns in diameter, about the same size as the cigarette ash particles in cigarette smoke and therefore respirable.

Because conditions are so chaotic in Iraq, the medical infrastructure has been greatly compromised. In terms of both cancer and birth defects due to DU, only a small fraction of the cases are being reported.

Doctors in southern Iraq are making comparisons to the birth defects that followed the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WWII. They have numerous photos of infants born without brains, with their internal organs outside their bodies, without sexual organs, without spines, and the list of deformities goes on an on. Such birth defects were extremely rare in Iraq prior to the large scale use of DU. Weapons. Now they are commonplace. In hospitals across Iraq, the mothers are no longer asking, "Doctor, is it a boy or girl?" but rather, "Doctor, is it normal?" The photos are horrendous, they can be viewed on the following website

Ross B. Mirkarimi, a spokesman at The Arms Control Research Centre stated:

Prior to her death from leukemia in Sept. 2004, Nuha Al Radi , an accomplished Iraqi artist and author of the "Baghdad Diaries" wrote:

This excerpt in her diary was written in 1993, after Gulf War I (Approximately 300 tons of DU ordinance, mostly in desert areas) but before Operation Iraqi Freedom, (Est. 1,700 tons with much more near major population centers). So, it's 5-6 times worse now than it was when she wrote than diary entry!! Estimates of the percentage of D.U. which was 'aerosolized' into fine uranium oxide dust are approximately 30-40%. That works out to over one million pounds of dust scattered throughout Iraq."
