Come to the (anti)mass Dérive - March 16th 2007 - San Francisco CA

by 8daysofanarchy
Join us in a 24 hour radical exploration of SF
This is day 4 of 8 Days of Anarchy

What is a dérive? It is literally a "drift" or "drifting". The modern use of the dérive is inspired by the Situationists who used this idea to revisit the way they looked at urban spaces. Rather than being prisoners to the daily route and routine of living in a complex & dehumanizing urban environment they urged people (primarily themselves) to follow their emotions and to look at the city in a radical new way.

Which is to say that a derive is whatever YOU make of it.

Why an (anti)mass dérive? Because many of us may make the time in our lives to wander around our local environment we rarely have the chance to do it socially. In the Theory of a Dérive Guy Debord recommends that the number of people you travel with be small (2-3) but the opportunity to collide with other drifters will make this dérive very different than others you may have been on.
How do you do it? The (anti)mass will be meeting at the Market Street Cable Car Turn Around (above the Market & Powell BART stations) at noon on March 16th. Many of us will also be connecting at different locations throughout the day.

You can download the specific information for the dérive at http://8daysofanarchy.org/downloads
