S.T.O.P. Slow To Observe Police

by I.C. Kopps
Word to the wise: Today there is a coordinated effort by the Police to crack down on bicyclists and drivers who roll through stop signs. A little after 9:00 am this morning, I saw no less than three SCPD cruisers hidden on side streets of Pacific Ave.; lying in wait for bicyclists and drivers who blow through stop signs... Then, as I approached a stop sign on Cedar St. by Maple, another bicyclist warned me about another cop waiting to give me a ticket. Needless to say, I hit the brakes just in time!
When I got home, I looked at the Coast Lines section of the SC Sentinel online, which confirmed what I already knew....

Officers on lookout for drivers who ignore signs

Police will be watching for drivers who don't obey traffic signs and signals today, according to the California Highway Patrol. The countywide enforcement will involve officers from the CHP and the Watsonville, Capitola, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley and UC Santa Cruz police departments, as well as sheriff's deputies. Each agency will be looking for violations in its jurisdiction, according to the CHP.
