"Women’s Health Care in Guatemala"

Talk by nurse practioner Chris Nelson of Chico. Feb. 25, Sun., 6 pm, at 3709 Miller Way, Sacramento

Every spring for 12 years, Chris Nelson, Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner in Chico, has led delegations of nursing students from the US and Canada to Guatemala. The delegations are organized by Pueblo Partisans, a Canadian NGO (http://www.pueblopartisans.org) and bring adult, pediatric and gynecological screening to medically indigent people in poor urban and rural communities in Guatemala for 6 weeks annually (with follow up as needed after that).

The students and Chris pay their own way but must fund-raise for medications and supplies for the clinics they do daily. Most of the women they see can't afford the lab cost for their pap smears and certainly can't afford follow up care when that is needed. They also often have children and adults who require assistance in getting care for serious health problems.

If you can assist with lab and treatment expenses for Guatemalan people, please send a donation to Pueblo Partisans by March 1st (or bring it to the talk on Feb. 25 in Sacramento), c/o Chris Nelson, 2300B Estes Rd., Chico, CA 95928. Also, if you would like to donate supplies, Chris would welcome multivitamins (prenatal, senior, children's) and over-the-counter analgesics (pain medications like Tylenol, Advil, etc.). Contact Chris 530-345-7590 (chris4pax [at] chico.com) if you have these or other medications you wish to donate or if you would like more information about their work in Guatemala.

For questions about the event in Sacramento, please call Darien at 916-739-0860; CAAC at 916-457-5018 or caac2 [at] jps.net.
