Too much COOING in the HOOD - Bayview Hunters Point

by Francisco Da Costa
Communities of Opportunity (COO) is a program where people are supposed to empower themselves. The model has been in operation for the last 3 years with the full knowledge of Mayor Gavin Newsom. The main man behind the model is Dwayne Jones - the former Director of the Mayor's Office of Community Development - and now self appointed Director of Communities of Opportunity (COO). The plan is simple - go into poor neighborhoods - throw some bread crumbs and make way for Lennar BVHP to come in and take over the last frontier.
San Francisco is a Racist City.

It is a pity that most White journalist we have that write for the Main Media and the many on line journals - cannot do investigative reporting, especially when it comes to the poorer sections of San Francisco.

These journalists wait for the eleventh hour to write something and when they write it is mostly devoid of facts. When some of us write - with the limited time we have they call it a "rant". Rants are good, they wake up those that have screwed up this Earth and of course that includes San Francisco's corrupt politicians.

The many Black sell outs, the Black Pastors, Sophie Maxwell, and all those that give a damn about the poor in the Bayview Hunters Point. Most of them on the take - time will tell.

The poor we will always have with us.

The poor are real - not like the filthy rich and those that screw around Mayor Gavin Newsom. We all know the recent episode and most think it is that liquor or whatever - but me thinks " white stuff ". I know White folks in certain circles - liquor does it a bit but that other stuff takes them places.

So, in these circles - some brain storming is done mostly when these folks are "high" - Communities of Opportunity (COO) is one of them.

" Lets throw some bread crumbs before the poor and before you know it we will bring in the Big Bad Boys (BBB) and just like that - we will have what most wanted to have for decades".

No one knows how COO works. So far the most ardent fans are some reformed "thugs" who have been given temporary jobs. At a recent hearing in City Hall - many of them came to testify and all but made a fool of themselves.

In order for any program or model to work - one has to studiy and find out who is behind this program. Spirituality is important. If you see a duck, that quacks like a duck, chances are that it is a duck. Now, when I review the past the history of SLUG and the politics and corruption and all the players - I know what is coming down the track.

Young Community Development (YCD) and all the audits and mismanagement during the past 8 years and more - tells me a lot. YCD has no real workforce history.

When I review the many mostly Black Community Based Organizations in the Bayview Hunters Point getting millions from the City and other State and Federal Agencies - doing little for the poor and those that need help - but, pocketing the money. I know what to expect.

Chris Daly had a hearing at City Hall linked to the program called COO. I attended it and sat through the deliberations - lots of wild talk, more talk, but no real action plan with goals and real time lines. No concrete Business Plan. No Accountability and less Transparency.

I attended a private orientation linked to COO at One South VanNess. The White woman giving the presentation had no clue about the Bayview Hunters Point history, less about the suffering of Black folks - she was giving a long winded presentation - full of loop holes, not connecting the dots, and no real Business Plan.

If something is real - Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS).

Mayor Gavin Newsom has a chance now that most things are in the open - reform himself and get rid of ploys and hood winking. Spin and Media have been his forte - but not for long - change does not come easy - especially when Gavin Newsom has been fooling so many folks for so long.

COO gets millions from Private Foundations. COO purports to cut to the chase and make good things happen. Of course educated and intelligent folks are kept out - poor simple folks are given bread crumbs and asked for an opinion. The poor want help but they have been fooled before and will be fooled again - when they are promised the sky.

Good homes for the poor are good but that must come with abatement and mitigation.

Low income and NO Income housing is at a premium. Alice Griffith is one of those complexes. It will take billions to clean up the area closer to the Hunters Point Shipyard. More to build good homes and really take care of OUR poor folks. It must be done the kosher way.

Sophie Maxwell ,is on the take, Lennar BVHP spreads money all over the place, Aaron Peskin is for change in the Bayview when his pants are on fire. Bevan Dufty the man that chases his tail like a dog - backs Sophie of course Dufty knows it all.

We have collected 33,200 signature and have filed a SUIT against the City and County of San Francisco. Educated folks know that - no one can move forward - the Project Area under SF Redevelopment is stalled and for good reason.

The other gimmicks are meant to deceive and hood wink. We have patience and will wait - Waiting for Godot:
