Ralph Nader Joins Congressional Watchdog Group at San Francisco Federal Building

by Robert B. Livingston (gruaudemais [at] yahoo.com)

Between making an appearance on KTVU Channel 2 news and making an address before San Francisco's Commonwealth Club, Ralph Nader briefly joined Pelosi Watch at the foot of the city's Federal Building where Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi keeps her district office.

The purpose of Nader's appearance was to encourage the newly formed local Congressional watchdog group "Pelosi Watch" to keep pressure on Pelosi to heed her constituents' demands: to stop funding an illegal and heinous war, to impeach Bush for treasonous crimes, and to bring America's troops home now.

San Franciscans have been clear on these issues, but thus far Pelosi has responded by speaking vaguely and acting contrary to our wishes. She has increased spending on war, she has declared that "impeachment is off the table," and she has endorsed Bush's plans to send more troops to a conflict region that is becoming more unstable and unmanageable with each passing day.

Here are some photos, mp3 recordings, and 1 short video clip from today's event.

Before Ralph Nader spoke, this woman gave an impassioned speech detailing horrible atrocities being committed in Iraq. Unfortunately I do not have her name or a recording of her moving speech. I hope someone can provide this soon or provide more information in the comments below.

Nader didn't speak about his new book which is called the Seventeen Traditions.
The book has been described as "a kind of modern-day parable of how we grow from children into responsible adults—a reminder of a time when nature and community were central to the way we all learned and lived."
