Information for Teachers
& Class Registration Form

Free Skool Santa Cruz is a completely grassroots effort, a bunch of individuals deciding to act collectively and autonomously to create a skill-sharing network, a school without institutional control. Classes are informal, egalitarian, and are held in homes, social spaces, and parks.  It is our opportunity to learn from each other and share what we know, to help create self-reliance, vital communities, and beauty in the world.

You already have the skills to teach Free Skool.

Spring Quarter runs March 1st to May 31st.  The Free Skool Spring Quarter teacher registration deadline is coming up February 10th.   We will not accept classes after this date.

Scheduling:
We are asking for a three month commitment.  You choose how often in that three months you want to teach your classes. You choose what days fit your schedule. We'll check back with you about dates and times to try to avoid conflicts.

Teaching Space:
We encourage teachers to find their own spaces for their classes, but if you need it, we can help you find a location.

Deadlines:
For teachers, the deadline to remember is February 10th. We'll need your class info by that deadline. We will have the calendar finished within several days of that deadline, so if you miss it, you miss it.

Responsibilities:  Free Skool is a decentralized, non-institutional project, in other words, you and I make it happen.  As organizers and as teachers, we have certain responsibilities.  Promote your class through word-of-mouth, fliering, community outreach, and online.  Work with other Free Skoolers to post calendars and fliers.  Be prompt and reliable.  Post updates and news on the Free Skool website.  Keep in touch with your students, before and after your class.  Take good care of the spaces who graciously host your class. Help with distro days, the quarterly community Picnic, and How to Run a Free Skool workshop.

Class Info:  If you are teaching a class this quarter, we'll need solid dates, times, location, and other info by the class registration deadline.  Here is a quickie form.  Please try to keep the description brief and use standard punctuation/capitalization so it isn't a pain in the ass to put on the calendar.  Thanks.

§Free Skool Needs Your Support

Dear Free Skooler:

We're right at the tail end of Winter Quarter. The new quarter begins in less than a month. Believe it or not, it's been two years since we started the project.

We'll be printing up new calendars a week or so after our teacher deadline on February 10th. Free Skool's only major expense is printing calendars. Printing about 2500 calendars costs us about $400. Will you consider donating cash to support our printing costs?

A dozen people donating 25 bucks can cover our entire printing costs, so a little goes a long way. You can donate with a credit or debit card through PayPal real easy like.

Make a Donation

Donations through PayPal are secure and relatively easy. They skim a little bit off the top to grease the wheels of the global economy, but all things considered, it 's better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Your Contribution Is Needed

If you’d like to contribute to this project in other ways too, we’d appreciate your support! Currently we are most in need of:

  • people to distribute calendars and fliers
  • locations to hold classes
  • voicemail
  • printing services

If you think you can help, contact us at freeskoolsc@riseup.net And if you lose this email, go to the website and click on the Donate link on the navbar. http://santacruz.freeskool.org

Love,
Free Skool

P.S. So what does the "free" in Free Skool mean then?

Free as in free speech, potlucks, and free thought. We try to keep Free Skool firmly fixed in a gift economy and outside of the stream of commerce. That said, your material assistance helps make Free Skool happen. While some teachers may ask for a donation to cover materials, no one is ever turned away for lack of funds.
