Rep. Doris Matsui agrees to hold meeting
with same anti-war activists who conducted
a nearly 3-week-long ‘peace-in' at her office
SACRAMENTO – Rep. Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) met with a roomful of
anti-war advocates here via teleconference late Tuesday – nearly three
weeks after they began a "peace-in" at her offices requesting she agree to
vote against any new funding for the war in Iraq and meet with them in person.
The Sacramento Coalition to End the War released details of the
surprise meeting at a news conference Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. on the front
steps of the Federal Courthouse (501 I St.).
The coalition, including community and veterans groups, also commented
on the President's State of the Union message Tuesday night.
Wednesday marks Day 12 of the "peace-in" at Rep. Matsui's office, where
those advocating an end to the war have held a daily vigil from the time
the office opens until 5 p.m., waiting for Rep. Matsui to publicly commit
to vote against any additional funding for the Iraq war.
