Announcing the formation of the SOUTH BAY OCCUPATION PROJECT
Several people from the 15th and 16th Congressional Districts represented by Mike Honda and Zoe Lofgren respectively, launched the South Bay Occupation Project (SBOP) today, January 17th. The SBOP was formed to organize and participate in the Occupation Project initiated by Voices for Creative Nonviolence (VCNC). (http://vcnv.org/project/the-occupation-project)
The day started with a KPFA piece on the South Bay Occupation Project (SBOP) broadcast on the morning show at about 7am.
We had a great day announcing the South Bay Occupation Project to Mike Honda and Zoe Lofgren through their staffs.
At Honda’s office, we gave the announcement leaflet to Chris. Honda was in DC. We spoke with Chris and he asked us questions about the SBOP. We sat in Honda’s office for about two hours.
At Lofgren’s office, we gave the announcement leaflet to Sandra Soto, Lofgren’s District Chief of Staff. Lofgren was in DC. Ms. Soto primarily talked around the issue of cutting off funds for the US wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the rest of the world. We attempted to direct her to the issue we were there to discuss but she didn’t seem to be able to contemplate cutting off funds. We sat in Lofgren’s office for about two hours.
Our next action is next week on Thursday the 25th for all day presences at both Honda’s and Lofgren’s offices. We are looking for people who can participate any time between 9 and 5 in person or by calling and/or faxing to:
Mike Honda
408-558-8085
408-558-8086 (fax)
Zoe Lofgren
408-271-8700
408-271-8713 (fax)
Thank you to those who called and faxed the offices while we were there today.
We definitely made our presence felt.
Join with us.
In solidarity,
South Bay Occupation Project
