oppose President's call for military escalation in Iraq

Tonight the president announced a policy of escalation in Iraq. We have to stop it, and the 24 hours after his speech are going to be critical in framing the debate. Congress and the press need to know that there's widespread opposition to this reckless plan.
MoveOn members have already organized hundreds of Emergency Rallies to Stop Escalation in Iraq for tomorrow night. We really need to have a strong turnout at these rallies so the message is heard loud and clear: Escalation is the wrong answer. Can you attend a rally near you in Lafayette tomorrow?

Here are the details:

There are hundreds of Emergency Rallies to Stop Escalation in Iraq planned to show widespread opposition to the president's plan. Can you join us at one in Lafayette tomorrow?

Join us at a rally

We will be setting up the candles in red plastic cups at each cross from 2pm and will start lighting candles at 5pm. If you can climb a hillside without trouble and if you can come early and help, that would be appreciated. Bring your own candle for the vigil at the bottom of the hill. Over 80 people have signed up to participate already. Ignore the max of 100 participants, there is room for thousands.

Momentum is on our side—263,200 of us have signed the petition and we've made 8,100 calls to Congress opposing escalation and this is just the beginning. The next step is to take our message to the public square with these rallies. All you have to do is show up to the event closest to you—the host will have signs and leaflets to pass out.
Stopping escalation is an important part of a strategy to getting out of Iraq. "Stay the Course" was rejected by the voters. If escalation is repudiated that leaves only one option: a responsible exit.
We're going to take our message to the doorsteps of congressional offices across the country. We really need you with us. Click below to sign up.

Thanks for all you do.
