“BUSH’S POLICY in Iraq is: when in a hole, dig deeper,” says Anthony Arnove, author of Iraq: The Logic of Withdrawal and initiating signatory of a widely circulated online statement demanding immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. “Sending more troops to Iraq will not stem civil war, but only lead to more needless deaths of Iraqis and of U.S. soldiers. Only 11 percent of the U.S. public supports Bush’s call for more troops. A strong majority want to bring them home, which is why it is urgent we all descend on Washington, DC, January 27 to send a message to the White House and to the new Congress to bring the troops home NOW—not in 2008, or 2010, or 2018.”
