The action's main goal is to remind the Speaker about the promise she made in the aftermath of the November elections to quickly introduce a comprehensive immigration reform package. At this action, leaders of the community will announce a series of steps to be taken to ensure that the Democratic Party fulfills its promise to take decisive legislative action this year. Coalition ANSWER EMERGENCY PROTEST STOP BUSH'S PLAN TO ESCALATE IRAQ WAR! THURSDAY, JAN. 11, 5 P.M. POWELL & MARKET STS. SAN FRANCISCO Join the ANSWER Coalition and many other organizations at an emergency protest this Thursday, Jan. 11, 5 p.m. at Powell and Market Sts. in San Francisco to demonstrate against President George Bush's escalation of the Iraq war. The night before the protest, Bush will set out his administration's new strategy to "win" in Iraq. His plan will include a troop increase and a massive escalation of violence against the Iraqi people, who have been suffering under U.S. occupation for nearly four years. This demonstration has been endorsed by the San Francisco Labor Council and many other organizations. People in the U.S. overwhelmingly oppose the war. A troop increase will only cause more death and destruction. Already 655,000 Iraqis and over 3,000 U.S. troops have died as a result of the war. The number of dead and injured is mounting each day. Bush is escalating the war not just in Iraq, but elsewhere in the region. Today, U.S. warplanes have attacked heavily populated areas of Somalia, killing and wounding many people. The Pentagon is moving more warships into place to threaten Iran, and Washington is actively promoting a divide-to-conquer strategy against the Palestinian people. The U.S./NATO occupation of Afghanistan continues to take a deadly toll. Come out this Thursday to protest this outrageous escalation of a deadly war based on lies. Bring signs, banners and express your opposition to war and racism. While the politicians posture, the people are the only force that can stop the war. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A.N.S.W.E.R.
