by Robert Norse
Protests, meals, meetings, phone numbers, and other tools of transformation in the next few days for any and all who want them.

As the weather goes from cold to sub-freezing. With "shelter space" available for less than 10% of the Santa Cruz City homeless.
WEEK OF WINTER WOE !
Upcoming Events

+++ Tuesday December 19 6 PM Sling, slurp, and sup with SAFE (Society for Artistic Freedom & Expression) outside downtown Santa Cruz’s New Leaf Market 6 PM - 9 PM.

Seen any cops giving jaywalking tickets? Shadowside Shane reports Officer Hoppe cornered Crosstown Kim near Peet’s Coffee on Monday afternoon and gave him a $100 ticket. What have you seen?

+++ Wednesday December 20 9:30 AM-11:30 AM HUFF (Homeless United for Friendship & Freedom) meets in its downstairs cold weather quarters in the basement of the County Building at the American Cafe. Free tea, coffee, or cocoa for the faithful. Bring your camping tickets.

Anybody witness three cops giving Shadowside Shane a “Bad Bunny” ticket in the late afternoon Sunday? Shane reports a Pacific Cookie Company employee, terrified by Shane’s killer rabbit Fluffy and his donation-seeking sign called the cops. Three blueshirts then gave Shane a littering ticket, he reports, for four pellets of bunny food on the sidewalk. No wascally wabbits downtown with our constables on the job !

++++ Wednesday December 20 6 PM Scotts Valley City Council has its second and final reading of the infamous “No Homeless” law, a City-wide camping ban in a town without shelter or pity.

Call 423-4833 in advance if you want to caravan up at 5 PM. Check indybay.org/santacruz for updates on this law.

+++ Wednesday December 20 6-10 PM SAFE has its regular singalong shindig in front of New Leaf Market, blasting out heat and light against the winter’s cold.

Anybody witness police harassment of Pastor Dennis Adams The Potters Hand meal Sunday before last (or last Sunday)? Or police or gentry harassment at his prior meal locations (Veteran's Hall basement, Vet's Hall parking lot, San Lorenzo Park, Grant St. Park) Let HUFF know at 423-HUFF.

+++ Thursday December 21 11 AM Memorial for the Santa Cruz County homeless dead at the Homeless Service Center at 115 Coral. Come mourn and organize. 2 homeless men died in the last 2 weeks according to the Sentinel.

Any volunteers to let Mayor "Smiley" Reilly or her Constitutional Law Cadet Vice-Mayor Ryan Coonerty know about harassment of The Potters Hand by Vets Hall bureaucrats, Parks & Rec officials, and police? Call City Hall at 420-5020; tell them to leave Pastor Adams alone.

+++ Friday December 22 noon FREE HOT SOUP by masterchef India Joe Schultz outside the City Åttorney’s office at 333 Church (just down from the Main Library and the Civic Auditorium).

Send a message to the City Attorney to stop ticketing people for sleeping during the winter. Los Angeles has done it--Why Can’t Santa Cruz? Come and ask! Bring your sleeping tickets.
