Screening of Inconvenient Truth (Move-On)

Date:
Saturday, December 16, 2006
Time:
5:45 PM - 8:45 PM
Event Type:
Screening
Organizer/Author:
John Thielking
Location Details:
Downtown San Jose. To find out the exact location, you must register as a guest through Move-On.org

Move-on.org is organizing screenings of An Inconvenient Truth for as many places as possible on Saturday, Dec 16, 2006.

The movie is a doccumentary by Al Gore, detailing the climate crisis the planet is in due to global warming. Basicly, unless the CO2 spigot is turned off today (not tomorrow) half of San Jose will dissapear under an enroaching SF Bay, as sea levels rise 20 feet or more.

The situation is not hopeless. If you go to http://www.climatecrisis.net and click on "take action" you can calculate your total contribution to CO2 production due to auto travel, electricity use and so on. Then go to the bottom of that page and find Native Energy, a company that has a program to help you offest your CO2 production by putting wind power on the grid.

Climatecrisis.net's calculator gives a lower estimate of CO2 production than some other web sites, so you might want to multiply the number you get there by a factor of three.

For a preview introduction to Al Gore and the concepts in the movie Inconvenient Truth, visit:

Ignore the first few minutes of comedy. He gets serious about halfway through the intro.

To see the movie at the downtown San Jose location, sign up at
http://political.moveon.org/event/seethetruth/29037
Seating is limited to 35 people maximum.

The event is free, but a small donation will be requested to cover the cost of renting the room. The room is not wheelchair accessible, but the movie will be simulcast on a 13" TV downstairs in a wheelchair accessible area. The restroom is not wheelchair accessible. An effort will be made to provide a phone for wheelchair users for the conference call.

The event includes a conference call on a speaker phone with Al Gore, that starts promptly at 6PM, so show up a bit early to listen in.
