Muslim Terror Analyst Sues NY Police
CAIRO — A US Muslim anti-terror analyst is suing the New York City Police Department over blistering anti-Islam e-mails sent out by a former CIA official, the New York Times reported on Wednesday, December 6.
The Egyptian-born analyst -- employed by the NYPD's intelligence division since 1998 -- was subject to "almost daily, virulent anti-Muslim and anti-Arab harassment," said the suit filed in Manhattan federal court.
Former CIA analyst Bruce Tefft bombarded the Muslim analyst - whose name has been withheld because he still works undercover - with daily e-mails rebuking the Muslim faith and the Noble Qur'an between 2003 and 2005.
"Someone would have to be blind, stupid or ignorant to think Islam is a religion," Tefft wrote in a 2005 e-mail sent to Intelligence Division.
Assigned with sending frequent electronic briefings to city workers on anti-terror strategy, he used to include virulent anti-Muslim and anti-Arab slurs.
"Burning the hate-filled Qur'an should be viewed as a public service at the least," Tefft wrote in another e-mail, describing the Muslim holy book as one of the "10 most harmful books of the 19th and 20 th centuries."
In a third mail he described Washington's so-called war on terror as a battle "against Islam and we are not winning."
In another briefing, Tefft asked, "Has the US threatened to vaporize Mecca?" and responded, "Excellent idea, if true."
In 2005, Colorado House of Representative Tom Tancredo said the US could "take out" Islamic holy sites in Saudi Arabia if terrorists attacked America.
No Avail
The US Muslim anti-terror analyst was also subject to harassing notes, jokes and racist slurs from his NYPD colleagues.
