Send 500,000 impeachment letters to Pelosi by her first day as speaker Jan. 3

by yurbud
More than 50,000 telegrams poured in on Capitol Hill today, so many, Western Union was swamped. Most of them demanded impeaching Mr. Nixon. John Chancellor, NBC News on a Special Report on October 20, 1973
While arguing about whether we should demand impeachment in another thread, someone said there had to be a "groundswell of support" like there was for the impeachment of Nixon and cited this article:

More than 50,000 telegrams poured in on Capitol Hill today, so many, Western Union was swamped. Most of them demanded impeaching Mr. Nixon.

John Chancellor, NBC News on a Special Report on October 20, 1973

We already have more support than that. When John Conyers took Bush his petition demanding he answer questions about the DSM, it had 540,000 singnatures, over ten times as many as wrote about Nixon. I would bet most of those people would write to demand impeachment of Bush, probably more.

The great thing is, now we have someone to focus this demand on who can and possibly will act (in spite of her protests to the contrary): Nancy Pelosi.

She should have a half million signatures waiting for her her first day as Speaker of the House.

I think she and the many of the Democrats want to do this, but to overcome the reluctance of the DC etablishment and big money interests who are afraid their ox will be gored along with Bush & Cheney, she needs constant overwhelming evidence of public DEMAND not just support for impeachment.

Fax or snail mail the letter below or your own variation to:

FAX: 202-225-8259

Nancy Pelosi
2371 Rayburn HOB
Washington, DC 20515

District Office:

450 Golden Gate Ave.
14th Floor
San Francisco, CA 94102

emails are nice, but letters and faxes make a physical pile that form a powerful visual, and that should be Pelosi opening her door and being buried by letters.

CC a copy to your congressman too. You can find their address here: http://www.house.gov /

Post this around to other boards and send it to you friends, and let's see if we can get something going.

Speaker Pelosi,

The American people elected a Democratic majority to restore checks and balances, the rule of law, and our reputation as a law-abiding country in the world community. These cannot be accomplished unless President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are impeached. Their impeachable offenses dwarf those that led to proceedings against President Clinton and President Andrew Jonson, and the threatened proceeding against President Richard Nixon combined. The offenses below are already supported with evidence in the public record, including admissions of guilt. It is likely that investigations prior to impeachment would turn up even more.

IMPEACH BUSH & CHENEY FOR:

  • Lying to the American people, Congress, and the world about the threat from Iraq & need for war.

  • War of aggression against Iraq, which posed no threat to US.

  • Death of over 600,000 Iraqis and nearly 3,000 S troops in unnecessary war.

  • Exploiting 9/11 for political gain and for war to benefit oil companies and other cronies.

  • Canceling Iraq’s oil contracts with foreign companies and giving them to American corporations and restructuring Iraq’s oil industry to their specification in violation of the Hague and Geneva Conventions.

  • Awarding no-bid contracts to cronies for rebuilding and oil exploitation in Iraq.

  • Inciting animosity toward the US by attacking Iraq and falsely claiming it was part of “War on Terror.”

  • Authorizing the use of torture in violation of the Geneva Convention and US law and against the advice of the uniformed military.

  • Participating in the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Haiti and attempting to do so in Venezuela.

  • Failure to fully cooperate with 9/11 Commission and joint congressional inquiry, and refusal to comply with Freedom of Information Act in other areas as well.

  • Warrantless wiretapping of American citizens.

  • Issuing signing statements that contradict the plain meaning of legislation, including on issues of torture.

  • Denying Americans and others habeas corpus rights even after Supreme Court ruled against it.

  • Coercing government employees to lie to Congress and the American people about the cost of Medicare drug benefit, global warning, and toxic hazard of NYC after 9/11.

  • Failure to provide timely aid to Hurricane Katrina victims and appointing someone with no experience to run FEMA.

  • Barring Americans who disagree with the president from public events paid for with taxpayer money, and forcibly removing some with private security posing as Secret Service agents.

Listen to the American people so we can be confident we have a democracy again.

Sincerely,

yurbud

The Democrats declared that the November election reflected how the people feel and that they want change. Well, that's Pelosi's voice representing an unknown number of voices for an undefined change.

What "must" happen is that we, the people, is where it started and that's where the war must end. Even if the Democrats do something to stop the war, then what? I'm not afraid of the consequences of stopping the war but hw much more control will "we" gain of our country? Voting is not enough. Many votes are stolen or wasted and "we" are ultimately not in control. If 500,000 people aren't willing to march up on capitol hill, in person, to demand an impeachment then we must start by sending letters.

Those that are rich and powerful in this country, and around the world, don't see us(the people) as significant as we see ourselves. Or do we? We have worked our butts off, raising families, struggling, living reality, and spending our hard earned dollars on anything and everything the corporate businesses have thrown at us, living on fast food, staying ill, and living in fear. We have become soft and weak.

There are many thousands of voices in America that speak loudly against the administration, but the problem is that none of those voices stand together with joined hands. We are each living in our own little world. States within states.

All we have to do is stand together, much like a school of fish, and demand for actions, because after all, this is our country, we built it with our own hands. We cannot and must not, as a whole country, give all authority to one small group of people. This has yet to work and it never will. The people must have majority and it must not be done in an unreliable voter ballot system. But for now send your letters!

There's no better time to put on the pressure. Bush is under pressure. The Democrats are under pressure to get re-elected in 2008. Because of the inaccuracies of voting, the votes must be well into the blue. If we put enough pressure on Pelosi she will have no choice but to satisfy us or she can kiss her job goodbye.

Impeach President Bush. You know as well as most people that doing so will likely get your majority kicked out of congress in the next election. So with that i encourage you to do it, it will be like watching you pour gasoline on yourself and lighting a match.

Impeach and hold accountable for death, destruction and despair.
Seems to me, Democrats are going to repeat the history by doing nothing about the death and destruction which incurred by Lies and decites. I beleive new democrats in Congress will do the same by turning their head other direction and do nothing about it. It is time for democrats to be bulled and have courage to stand up and say we don't take it anymore and bring the troops home now, now, now, now.

Please be careful when quoting the 655,000 number for Iraqi deaths (Lancet survey). It is an estimate based on household surveys and "death rate" per day. It is not a statistical extrapolation and it is not based on deaths reported through the media, hospitals, etc. While the Lancet survey methods are arguably credible, the number is still highly debatable, and quoting it can (to some) sound like over-the-top hotheadedness. This is unnecessary in a vast landscape of otherwise completely factual, undebatable, damning evidence against the administration. One debatable item takes the wind out of the sails of the entire argument for impeachment. Please consider omitting the Iraqi death count (or, if you must, modify the statement - "anywhere from 50,000 - 600,000+ Iraqis dead" or "tens of thousands of Iraqis dead") when writing your letter.

"Please be careful when quoting the 655,000 number for Iraqi deaths (Lancet survey). "

The 50,000 number for 3+ years seems really really low. With a popuolation of 27 million or so and a death rate the US government claims to be over 5% (which is the prewar level too so you know thats low) you woudl expect about 150,000 poeopel to be dying a year in Iraq. If "liberals" from Iraq Body Count are going to ask "where are the bodies" and "where are the death certificates" to the Lancet numbers consider the problem with the missing bodies from the nonviolent death count (the change in death rate the Lancet gave is actually a pretty small change in death rate if you look at total violent and nonviolent so the number of people buried and getting death certificates should be similar to their number even if they were wrong about the increase in violent deaths).

I watch in amazment the various talk shows on TV trying to figure out what is the best course of action. No one ever mentions, cut and run. Why not? It is time to leave. Let the place implode, if that be the case. If the Iraqis want contractors back to help rebuild the damage we have done, it will be considered on a case by case basis. Certainly Haliburton will not be a part of this, I hope. We had some nerve trying to enforce our type of Democracy on these people. They don't want it and don't understand it. The number of Americans living and dying over there every day is a disgrace. Did anyone see the special last night on CNN about a US Medical Facility over there? It was heartbreaking to see the soldiers torn to pieces by roadside bombs. Their cries of agony made your skin crawl. Please write to Mrs. Pelosi and ask for help stopping the madness. Now! Not in a year or more.

It would be all well and good to impeach the bastards, but Nancy Pelosi would be the wrong one to approach. She is, after all, next in the line of succession. That would put her in a delicate position. Better just to block all of their worst efforts(meaning Cheney and Bush and their employers), demand an immediate withdrawal of our troops, and, when their terms are up, turn them over to the international court at The Hague as war criminals. This would do much more than impeachment to impress the peoples of the World, the Islamic World in particular, that the American people are committed to the rule of law, even if their leaders are sometimes not so committed.

Nancy Pelosi is not the person to address with these impeachment letters. As next in line, she has to be cautious in these matters as well as all others. Better to press legal charges against Bush, Cheney (Rumsfeld in absentia) directly. This mess is all about oil...we are not in a position now to "secure our oil priorities" or any other position requiring power. Will someone in the press please get real on this?

While I strongly disagree with the Iraq war, and agree that Bush should be impeached and even prosecuted for his actions, cut and run at this point would be a bad idea. President Bush totally de-stabilized the middle east by invading Iraq in the first place, which means that we can't go over there and create a huge mess and then drop everything and run. Doing this in my opinion would only create a bigger mess and force us to have to go back again. Whats the answer ? I'm not really sure at this point but I do know this.......every war always comes down to a negotiation and/or agreement. Without this, the war will never end. Thinking that we have the power to change what people believe in force is just irresponsible.
One thing that I think needs added to his impeachment, is the propaganda displayed to scare people into supporting the war, and the lack of action on the real problems in this country.

Your list covers many valid points; however I feel the misuse of public fear and the deliberate and calculated creation of public hysteria in order to create a police state--vis a vis the Patriot Act and other wildly unconstitutional laws--should also be an article of Bush impeachment.

It will be next to impossible to actually impeach the chimp. An worse yet, if it happened we would have Dick running the show.
The best way to put an end to the Iraq madness is to cut the funding for the war effort.
In doing so, W would have no choice but to bring the troops home as the money runs out.

IMPEACHFORPEACE.ORG has an IMPEACHMENT MEMORIAL ready to be mailed to House Speaker Ms Pelosi, one now, and one to be mailed en masse on Jan15. Site had over 500,000 downloads for Rep Sensenbrenner, with copies going to Rep Conyers. We need millions of Impeachment Memorials for Pelosi, and we need to encourage Rep Conyers to honor all those 500,000 Impeachment Memorials sent to the former "do nothing" Chairman! Let's go!

The real mass murder is President W Bush. Even Saddam - of course a bad dictator but at least there was peace in Iraq - has ordered to kill less people and over 20 years dictatorship.

Best idea to stop funding the war and less the mess behind. The game did not work and is over before it will get worse.

Good luck.

Is it possible that Bush's plan for our troops (surge) in the middleast is really a stratigic
layout of a bigger War to attack Iran and Syria,. Iraq seems to be a repeated
war pattern of other countrys in the past like El Salvador. smaller in size but
exactly the same pattern. civil war, torture and murder of civillians that swept
the country when Bush's father was president and went into El Salvador.
Many Iraqi's claim that there are contracted mercrneries that caused and contribute to daily attacks on civillians blaming shites and sunni's. Bush seems to be winning. He is destroying Iraq and I feel is strategically getting ready for a bigger war in the middle east.
