Justin "Fox News Sucks" Barker has Pretrial Hearing

by Todd Berman
Justin Barker, who yelled "Fox News is bullshit; Fox News sucks" into a camera during their coverage of Halloween in the Castro, attended his pretrial hearing on dubious charges of battery and resisting arrest. After Barker rejected a plea bargain, the judge set a trial date for January 19, 2007. Courtroom sketches included here.

After Barker rejected a plea bargain, the judge set a trial date for January 19, 2007. The video (which KTVU has pulled from YouTube) shows that Barker did not touch reporter Amber Lee, so the charge of battery is rather ridiculous. Apparently, the police see it as their job to protect the quality of TV news broadcasts. It's all very strange and the blogosphere is abuzz at sfbg.com, DemocraticUnderground.com, and sfist.com.
§Lillian Sing presides

Judge <a href='http://www.smartvoter.org/2004/11/02/ca/sf/vote/sing_l/' target='_blank'>Lillian Sing presided as the substitute judge in Department 15 at the Hall of Justice for Justin "Fox News sucks" Barker. The public defender was also a substitute and said nothing. It seemed as if no one in the court new of the details of the case. Sing began by asking to see Barker's driver's license, apparently assuming it was some sort of DUI hearing.
