RADICAL PICNIC, Workshops and Discussions:

(Meet 2:00pm Saturday December 9th at the Beehive house, 315 Walnut Street.)

Prisoner Letter Writing 101
The ins and outs, do’s and don’ts. Letterwriting is a simple and rewarding activity to lift the spirits of prisoners and express your support.

Dealing with Cops and Feds
A participatory know-your-rights workshop including a series of role-plays. The politically motivated spectrum of cop/agent harassment will be emphasized, while also incorporating everyday police-related scenarios.

Responses to State Repression
A group discussion on strategy. After an overview of the past year’s attacks on activists, we will ask - How do we want to respond to state repression?

Basic Security
Tips, techniques, and common sense guidelines to protect ourselves from the dark hand of modern repression.

Local Environmental Campaigns
A discussion about eco-destructive development in our local region.

FREE DINNER AND MUSICAL PERFORMANCES:

Following the afternoon of workshops and discussions, dinner will be provided by Food Not Bombs, and there will be a free benefit show, also at the Beehive, starting at approximately 7:00pm:

Featuring RAUM (Kaczynskian jug band!)
and more spasmodic accordion music, TBA.

Oppose the criminalization of dissent!

The term “Green Scare” refers to the federal government’s expanding prosecution efforts against animal liberation and ecological activists, which is strikingly similar to the “Red Scare” of the 1950s. Recent sweeping legislation such as the Patriot Act and Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act redefine “terrorism” so broadly that anyone who advocates for social change can be criminalized for thinking, speaking or acting in a manner that threatens corporate profits and the rule of law. Activists are facing potential multiple life sentences for crimes against property, crimes that have harmed no-one. Others (the SHAC 7) have been sentenced to years in prison for simply running a website and speaking in support of direct action. Look out, everyone is a potential terrorist.

These events are part of the International Days of Solidarity with Green Scare Indictees, Detainees, and Political Prisoners.

Also, don't miss the benefit event taking place at the RCNV on Friday, December 8th, with speakers and film screenings. (there's another SC-Indymedia article about it)
