Celebrate the Right To Organize, Oakland General Strike Anniversary 12/6
$10 in advance, $25 at the door, at Oakland Rotunda Building, 300 Frank Ogawa Plaza, opposite City Hall, 5:30 to 7:30pm
The Alameda Labor Council, AFL-CIO Invites You to Celebrate the Right to Organize, the Courage of Workers, and the 60th Anniversary of Oakland's General Strike
"On this spot, street car driver Al Brown stopped his car to honor a picket line of women retail clerks. The workers were on strike to demand recognition of their union at Kahns and Hastings Department Stores. When Brown stopped his car, the streetcars behind him stopped, too. Soon more than 100,000 East Bay workers joined in a 'work holiday' in support of the clerks. The Oakland General Strike lasted three days. Its solidarity led to union recognition for the retail clerks, a more progressive city government, and better lives for working families."

Why is there a $10 to $25 charge for this event which should be FREE and open to the public?
Is Big John Garamendi getting paid?
Is Big John Garamendi getting paid?
If a general Strike actually ever again came to Oakland, douche bag Garimendi and the democrats would do everything possible to stop it.
As I famously once said:
"In the U.S. we have one party with two right wings."
Why the fuck are these AFL-CIA piecards making us pay for an event that should be free? To pay off the debts of the pro-war Democratic Party? Wake up everyone, the Democratic Party is anti-worker, but labor gets a hard-on to hand over hard earned rank-and-file dues money to these war pigs every election season. Sound insane? It's worse than insane!
And go back and read some history. In the 19th century the Democrats may have been the party of working people, but it was also the party that was pro-slave. It took the anti-slavery Republicans and Lincoln to pit brother against brother to end the system of slavery in the bloodbath of the Civil War. Why the fuck should we have anything but contempt for the party of anti-black--and anti-Chinese--racism.
But it makes sense if you see the role of the AFL-CIA as an ambassador of the U.S. state in its dealings with workers in other countries. How many times has the AFL-CIA betrayed working class solidarity to further the interests of the U.S. ruling classes interests in pushing for imperialistic foreign policy?
Fuck these piecards in the AFL-CIA pulling down six-figure salaries to negotiate sweetheart and give back concessions that push workers further and further towards starvation wages!
Fuck the anti-labor and pro-war Democratic war pigs like Garamendi!
BOYCOTT THIS EVENT WHERE RICH LABOR BUREAUCRATS SCRATCH THE BACKS OF RICH DEMOCRATIC PARTY HACKS!

Sharon Cornu, the bureaucratic Democratic party hack that runs the Alameda Central Labor Council made sure that instead of having Oakland General strike survivors speak at the commemoration, the commemoration would focus on the Democratic politicians. Not one survivor of the Oakland general strike was allowed to speak or get recognition while Sharon Cornu made sure that all the Democratic politicians and their representatives got plenty of time to speak.
This is the same Sharon Cornu who prevented the Oakland teachers who are members of the OEA from addressing the Alameda Labor Council when they were in a battle with managemnet since they were not members of the council.
So much for solidarity.
