UC Berkeley Oak Grove Placed on Register of Historic Places
Announcement supportive of the Save the Oaks campaign made tonight at rally on the steps of Berkeley's old city hall.
At the Save the Oaks rally tonight, on the steps of Berkeley's old city hall, an announcement was made that today the National Park Service has placed the grove on the national register of historic places. This means that UC Berkeley cannot just go in and cut the grove near the stadium to accomodate its expansionist plans, including the 200 year old Sentinel oak tree. It's "three for one" offer has been roundly rejected by intelligent Berkeley residents, who have pointed out to the university that it isn't possble to replace an ecosystem, valuewise, with a tree gardening scheme!
