EBAA Rescues 12 Turkeys before ThanksgivingAcross California, farms routinely abuse and neglect turkeys raised for food. Providing direct aid, EBAA rescued 12 brutally-mutilated baby turkeys (known as poults) from a large factory farm in the Central Valley before Thanksgiving this year. Unlike the vast majority of meat-raised birds, these turkeys will live out their lives in peace and safekeeping. Remember to eating humanely this Thanksgiving. Take a look inside the California turkey industry. |
A New Investigation Exposes Animal Abuse at Turkey Hatchery that Supplies ButterballIn June and July of 2006, a Compassion Over Killing (COK) investigator was employed at a North Carolina turkey hatchery for nearly three weeks. While there, he witnessed and documented the misery endured by newly-hatched chicks as they began their short lives in the turkey industry. As our investigator caught on camera, many chicks never even made it out of the hatchery alive. Those who survived the rough handling of the hatchery processing were shipped off to “grow out” confinement facilities where most of them will never set foot outside. Turkeys are typically slaughtered for food when they are just 4 to 5 months old, meaning that the birds filmed during COK’s investigation in June and July were being raised for Thanksgiving dinner tables. Learn more about this eye-opening investigation. |

Tell the USDA to Enforce the Humane Methods of Slaughter ActEach year, more than nine billion chickens, turkeys, and other birds are slaughtered without the protection of the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, simply because the U.S. Department of Agriculture doesn't recognize these animals as "livestock." Tell Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns to fulfill his responsibility to ensure that all animals, including birds, are treated humanely. Contact the USDA today! |
