LAUNCHING OF NATIONAL
MEGA ANTI GANG INJUNCTIONS COALITION (M.A.G.I.C.)
This site is a communication forum between concerned citizens and community based organizations, strategizing to defeat the hype around Youth gangs that is sweeping the Nation, particularly in cosmetically appealing " blighted " areas targeted for gentifrication, and currently the heavily criminalized neighborhoods of Poor People of Color.
hype about gangs is making. more citizens fearful of minority youth, and dangerously increasing potential for racially motivated incidents.
Although we recognize the existence of Gangs as partially at the root of the demise of our poor communities of Color, the hype about Gangs injunctions provide police less with a tool to confront gangs than with license to take action against anyone in the area who happens to look like. "a gang member", a kid with dreadlocks, a white T-shirt, a pre-teen or teenager hanging out after school at the street corner by his parents' home.
In San Francisco, SFPD beat up 4 teenagers on MLK day in 2002, wrongly assumed to be "gang members", and brutalized Marcus Law, then 14, on the same presumption 3 years ago, both incidents in Bayview Hunters point, the poorest and most criminalized area of the city.
SF Community is raising against the hype, and "Managed Mayhem" carefully crafted to proceed to "Ethnic Cleansing", and "sanitize" SF Bayview, (bid for the Olympic games and targeted area for the Olympic Village), in imminent process of land grab by the developers.
We want to gather similar experiences and actions across the US, grow our strength, within the frark of authentic Community Policing, and regain our Power over the deadly collaboration between landgrab and criminalization perpetrators. Send us your stories and articles !
