There were no surprises in San Francisco's voting. The fact that San Francisco voted for Props H to give tenants a ltitle relocation benefit which will slow down the eviction madness and F for paid sick leave should not surprise anyone. These kinds of propositions always succeed in San Francisco, with its 2/3 of the residents being tenants who are 50% of the voters in a high voter turnout election. This was not a high voter turnout election, but there was sufficient interest and the parties that represent the majority of San Franciscans, namely Peace & Freedom, Green and Democrats, all supported Props F and H. The Republican vote is always about 15% in San Francisco and that was about true in this election for most partisan offices. As to Democrat Chris Daly, it should not surprise anyone that he won as he always wins. If you need more, he is a strong tenant voice in a very workingclass district and some condominium buildings, most of which condos are empty. Chris Daly had the support of the Democratic Party, which paid for large signs, including one I saw at Market and Montgomery on election day, the kind that is about 3 feet tall that one holds, as well as lots of window signs that were carried around the district on wooden sticks. Daly also has the power of incumbency which is very difficult to overcome in any election. San Francisco is essentially an "inner city," which means it has a large workingclass vote, so its vote is very predictable, and this election was no exception. The only difference between San Francisco and Oakland is that San Francisco is both a city and a county, so its results should up as an entire county whereas Oakland's election results only show up as being part of Alameda County, which has a higher Republican registration and a higher Republican vote. The same is true of Richmond in Contra Costa County.
