Measure H will fund Police 4x more than fixing roads

This 1/4 cent sales tax increase proposal is hawked as a measure to repair potholes and damaged roads. But only 9% is earmarked for Public Works while 37% will go to the best-paid department in the City of Santa Cruz: the police

Santa Cruz, Ca. --- In examining one of the two flyers I received by mail from the YES on H campaign---Measure H will be spent in the following manner:

37% for POLICE
20% for FIRE (who also have fire code enforcement powers)
14% for Parks and Rec (including Rangers who enforce the camping ordinance in the greenbelt areas)
ONLY 9% will be used by Public Works and Planning to repair roads,
as most of the advertising features most prominently.
8% for Administration
12% for Community & Library Services

City Council watchdog, Scott Graham calls Measure "H" "a drunken sailor's measure" because it is one of the main reasons we HAVE a City Government. To repair the roads and sewers. Because of their own mismanagment of more than adequate revenues (such as sinking $600,000.00 into the ill-fated Coast Hotel Project prior to voting to proceed on the project such as Rotkin and Mathews promoted.)

Therefore, I recommend a NO on "H" vote.

§I voted no on H!

Why would I want to give the police more money when they WASTE it spying on the community and HARASSING the homeless. I'm not necessarily an anti-tax person, but I refuse to pay more money for services that we either a) don't need or b) the city should already be paying for.

I did vote yes on Measure K, though, that should help free up some money in the police koffers.
